What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is a series of custom-made, clear plastic aligners that cover your teeth over time, gently pulling them into the proper position. The aligners are specially designed for each patient. Since they are clear and removable, they are less noticeable than conventional metal braces. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten.

Is Invisalign® treatment more expensive than braces?

Invisalign treatment typically costs about the same as braces. It is dependent on your specific treatment plan that will be developed by our Invisalign-certified orthodontists.

How long will I have to wear Invisalign® for?

The length of your treatment will depend on many factors, like how complex your case is and how often you wear your aligners. Our doctors will determine exactly how long your treatment will take based on your specific needs. For most cases, Invisalign treatment time can be between 12 to 18 months, though you can start seeing results in a matter of weeks.

Do I have to stop eating my favorite foods when wearing Invisalign®?

Nope! You can remove your Invisalign aligners, which means there are no food restrictions. However, there are certain foods and drinks that we’ll suggest you look out for, just to maintain optimal oral health. Keep in mind, though, that you must brush your teeth after eating before you put your aligners back in.

Can I chew gum while wearing Invisalign®?

No, you shouldn’t chew gum while wearing the aligners. It could stick to the aligners and cause a mess.

What if I lose or break an aligner – what should I do?

If you lose or break an Invisalign aligner, immediately let our orthodontic team know. Your doctor will work with you to ensure you stay on-track with your treatment plan, which may involve wearing a previous set of aligners, your next set of aligners, or ordering replacements aligners.

What happens when I'm done with Invisalign® treatment?

Most doctors recommend that anyone who has completed orthodontic treatment, whether with braces or Invisalign treatment, use a retainer to prevent teeth from gradually shifting back toward their initial position. Retainers are typically worn overnight, and could be every night for the next year (this depends on your orthodontist’s recommendations.) Every case is different, so ask your doctor if you need retainers.
